Dental Implants in Singapore
A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a titanium fixture placed in the jawbone, which carries a ceramic crown once it has integrated. At our Millenia Walk clinic implant surgery is carried out by Dr Austin Chan, planned from a 3D CBCT scan. The full sequence usually runs three to six months from placement to final crown.

What happens
Assessment and a 3D CBCT scan to measure the available bone and locate the nerve and sinus.
Placement of the titanium fixture under local anaesthetic. Most people return to work the next day.
A healing period of three to six months while the bone integrates with the fixture.
The abutment and final ceramic crown are fitted, and the bite adjusted.
Reviews, then annual checks of the implant and the gum around it.
The systems we place
Two titanium systems, chosen for the site rather than for the invoice. Straumann, the Swiss system, where the bone is compromised or the aesthetic demand is high — it carries one of the longest published clinical records in implant dentistry. Hiossen where a well-supported site allows a more economical fixture without giving up design quality. Both are placed from the same 3D CBCT plan.
Zirconia implants — ceramic, metal-free — are not something we place yet. We are in the process of bringing them in. If metal-free matters to you, say so at consultation and we will tell you where that stands rather than talk you into titanium.
An implant is the option that does not involve the neighbouring teeth. A bridge, the alternative, requires cutting down the healthy teeth on either side of the gap; a denture requires nothing but is removable. Which is right depends on the bone available, the health of the neighbouring teeth, and how much surgery you want.
Implants can fail, and the honest reasons are worth stating: smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, untreated gum disease, and poor cleaning around the implant. We assess and treat gum health before placing anything.

Questions
Which implant systems do you use?
Straumann and Hiossen, both titanium. Straumann where the bone is compromised or the aesthetic demand is high; Hiossen where a well-supported site allows a more economical fixture. Zirconia, metal-free implants are also placed, though we are cautious about the conventionally shaped ceramic fixtures and are introducing a monolithic single-piece design, subject to HSA approval.
Can I use Medisave for a dental implant?
Yes. Implant placement is a surgical procedure and is Medisave-claimable, subject to Ministry of Health withdrawal limits. The crown portion may not be. We will tell you what is claimable in your written quotation.
Does implant surgery hurt?
The surgery is done under local anaesthetic and is not painful at the time. Expect soreness and some swelling for two to three days, managed with ordinary painkillers.
How long does an implant last?
Well-maintained implants routinely last decades. The fixture rarely fails; what fails is the gum and bone around it if it is not cleaned, which is why the annual review matters.
